It is common to read about Eczema in magazines and hear about it on TV programs but what is Eczema exactly? This skin complaint is a general term for skin irritations that include dry, reddened skin that itches or burns. There are different kinds of Eczema and it can be very uncomfortable or quite manageable.
In Lubbock, News Channel 11's Health Encyclopedia includes a description of Eczema:
"Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is often seen in association with other atopic conditions, such as hay fever, asthma, or hives, but is generally not triggered by pollen or other airborne irritants... This is a red, itching, oozing, crusting dermatitis that tends to be localized primarily on the face and scalp, although spots can appear at other sites."
