Yan Zhang, Ph.D., is licensed by the Texas Medical Board to practice acupuncture and is now taking appointments in the Texas Tech Physicians of Lubbock Family Medicine Clinic, 3601 Fourth St.

Zhang completed eight years of training in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in China, where she received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. She completed the doctorate program at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., in 2005.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese treatment that involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through the skin, to various depths at strategic points on the body, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The treatment has gained popularity in the United States over the past few decades can help alleviate the following conditions:
