True or False: Nephrology is the specialty that deals primarily with diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. Answer: True! This is why Texas Tech Physicians dedicates a clinic to Nephrology and the study/research of diseases regarding this topic. The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Texas Tech Physicians at Lubbock includes highly trained and experienced faculty that specialize in management of all forms of kidney disease as well as end stage renal disease.

We offer:

  • acute and chronic hemodialysis
  • peritoneal dialysis
  • we run a large kidney transplantation program

Kidney complications from various conditions can include:

  • diabetes
  • lupus
  • hypertension
  • gout
  • other disorders that selectively affect the kidneys such as nephritis and renal stones.

Management of patients with end stage kidney disease with various dialysis procedures and kidney transplantation is a major part of nephrology practice. We also manage a large number of patients with hypertension and have expertise in evaluating and managing difficult and resistant hypertension. In addition, the nephrology faculty at TTP have earned national recognition for pioneering research particularly in the field of hypertension and diabetes.
