Different types of glaucoma include:

  • open-angle glaucoma (also called chronic glaucoma)
  • angle closure glaucoma (also called closed angle glaucoma)
  • low tension glaucoma
  • normal tension glaucoma
  • congenital glaucoma
  • secondary glaucoma
  • pigmentary glaucoma
  • neovascular glaucoma

Risks and Factors:

The causes of glaucoma are still being researched. Studies have found that some factors increase the risk of developing glaucoma. Look below for further facts:

  • African Americans age 40 or over
  • Diabetic patients
  • Mexican Americans over the age of 60
  • anyone else over that age of 60
  • genetic factors

Glaucoma Risks:

  • high eye pressure
  • thinness of the cornea
  • abnormal optic nerve anatomy
