Childhood Immunizations

Pros and Cons

One of the main reasons for planned conception is to be ready for preventing bad outcomes and disease. Wellness at the beginning of life will help build strong immune systems that safeguard against deadly diseases over the course of a lifetime. Vaccines for the past century have reduced and eliminated diseases that before would kill or severely disable.

Immunization is a wellness tool that is widely available with and without insurance. Regular checkups with your child's pediatrician is also a good tool for keeping your child (ren) healthy. Be sure to ask questions and develop a relationship of trust so that you are comfortable discussing the needs of your child or children. Receiving up to date information on the constantly changing landscape of medical breakthroughs will provide the best armor against the threat of these childhood diseases.

Are vaccines safe?

There are cases of unpreventable symptoms from immunization. Most symptoms are minor such as:

  • minor pain and irritation
  • redness and swelling at the injection site
  • fever

Other symptoms are associated with particular vaccinations.

  • with whooping cough there can be seizures associated with fever
  • persistent, inconsolable crying

A good source of information is your pediatrician. They will be well educated in the current effects of new vaccines as well as being a good source of knowledge where vaccination information is needed.

Do vaccines weaken my child's immune system?

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is a good source of information if you are concerned about immunizing your child. Also, your TTP Pediatrician will know of resources that will also help to educate yourself and spouse/family.
