Aiming for Confidence

Men seeking cosmetic enhancements is not new, but the stigma against men receiving aesthetic treatments is finally starting to fade. Now more than ever, men are looking to rejuvenate or refresh their look—aiming for confidence without looking as though they’ve had “work done.”

The providers at Texas Tech Physicians are here to help men feel their best. We’re going over just a few of the basic aesthetic treatments men might consider: what the treatments do and what outcomes you can expect.

Why are more men considering aesthetic treatments?

In recent years, more men are adding aesthetic treatments to their list of what “taking care of yourself” looks like. Rather than a choice for vanity, aesthetic treatments are about maintenance, confidence and adding the right energy back into your daily life.

The desired treatments vary from person to person—which is why a consultation can help you decide what is right for you. When you meet with a healthcare professional, you’ll go over goals and expectations to create a personalized plan. Consultations also help with any questions or concerns you might have if you know what you want, but you’ve never had any of these treatments before.

Botox

Neuromodulators such as Botox to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. By temporarily relaxing the muscles that create these lines, they give you a smoother and more youthful complexion.

Despite what some people assume, the goal of Botox isn’t usually to “freeze” your expressions or to get rid of every line. Most men aim to soften movement and make your face look a little less tired or stern, but still natural.

Botox can relax the muscles that create frown lines between the brows, forehead lines and crow’s feet. There are also treatments that can focus on the muscles in your jaw.

The results of neuromodulators usually begin to appear 1 to 3 days after treatment, with full results developing within a week or more. The effect of most wrinkle reducers may last 3 to 4 months, depending on the person and the product. You’ll need follow-up injections in the future to maintain the results.

Hair restoration

Hair loss is incredibly frustrating and personal, and can change the way a person feels about themselves—whether it’s receding hair at the hairline or temples, thinning at the crown or just generally hair not being as thick as it once was.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a growth factor-based treatment for hair loss that uses regenerative medicine. It is a treatment that does not require surgery.

The PRP is injected superficially into the skin of your scalp, in areas where hair loss has occurred. With varying results, the goal of this non-surgical treatment is to produce thicker, darker and healthier hair growth.

The best candidates for this treatment are those with thinning hair (rather than complete baldness), and those who have experienced recent hair loss. A consultation will allow you and your provider to discuss and decide what is right for you.

Other treatments

Some of the other options for aesthetic treatments that might appeal to men include:

  • PRP facials: The same PRP treatment that can be used for hair restoration is offered as facial treatment as well. This treatment uses your own blood platelets to stimulate collagen and elastin. When effective, it can reduce wrinkles, plump up sagging skin or generally improve your complexion. Before and after of men's aesthetic treatments side view of face and eyes
  • Sclerotherapy: Sclerotherapy is a treatment to minimize or improve the appearance of varicose veins, which are twisted and enlarged. A mild form of varicose veins called “spider veins” can also be treated with sclerotherapy. With a procedure that takes an hour or less, sclerotherapy uses a small needle to slowly put solution into the vein. This irritates the lining of the vein and causes it to swell shut, so the vein eventually disappears.
  • Microneedling: Microneedling uses a minimally invasive treatment for your skin that involves thin needles. By using a hand-held roller or an electric tool with tiny needles ranging from 0.5 millimeters to 2 millimeters, the procedure can help reduce the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, crepey skin, enlarged pores, etc.

It starts with a consultation

Finding an aesthetic treatment plan that meets your needs is a personal decision. The journey can lead to increased confidence and a higher sense of self-worth. By booking an appointment with our providers at Texas Tech Physicians, you might be able to create subtle changes that truly improve your daily life.
