Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Center for Superheroes

Targets disruptive behavior problems in children 2 to 8.

15 to 20 sessions

10 Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) and over 50 empirical, peer reviewed studies

PCIT has been demonstrated to work on the following populations:

  • Foster children
  • Domestic violence populations
  • Children with developmental disabilities
  • Latino children
  • School based
  • Children with hearing impairments
  • Children who have been physically abused or neglected

PCIT is one of only two treatments that have been empirically demonstrated to be able to treat families who have physically abused or neglected their child.  In two separate studies, parents with substantiated physical abuse and/or neglect charges who participated in PCIT did NOT RETURN TO THE CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM after completing treatment.
