I like to watch movies and sports in my free time, and my favorite sports are Soccer and Cricket. I love classic cars especially muscle cars from the '60s and early 70s –all of them! When I get a chance I go to car shows, local cars & coffee and also enjoy a long drive with my family. Spending time with my kids is the most fun part of the day. The key is to find ways to relax and enjoy your time.
Hello, I'm Dr. Sharmin Nabi, and I am a psychiatry resident with TTUHSC of the Permian Basin. I was born and raised in Bangladesh. My sensitive nature always attracts people who need help and I have a natural inclination to help others who are going through a tough time. I have provided emotional support and reassurance to my friends without judging them and tried to make them feel valued and important. I chose psychiatry as I am confident in building rapport with my patients. When I develop a connection with my patients, they tend to be much more open and honest when answering questions which helps me understand their situation even better and gives me more opportunities to make a proper diagnosis that directs me to the right course of treatment. I enjoy working with people of emotional need as good mental health can improve life quality, whereas poor mental health may lead people to death. I spend my free time with my husband raising our two beautiful kids. I am either thrilled by their developmental milestone or engaging in my passion for cooking.
JoAnn Rey, LPC
When I was in high school, I took a psychology class which ended up being the catalyst for my interest in mental illness/health. With life's twists and turns, it took me a while to get started in the field but once I started, I never looked back. My first job in the field was as a case manager working with kids in the juvenile justice system. Later, I became a licensed therapist and have been working in different areas of the mental health field for 19 years. In addition to working in the field, I also advocate for more/easier access to mental health services in schools. My husband is an artist and an art teacher. We've been married for 21 years. I'm not much of a gardener but I do love working outside in the yard. I also love interior design, my subscription to Psychology Today magazine, beautiful fall mornings and coffee.
